Katarzyna Kozyra, one of Poland’s most well-known artists – a sculptor, photographer, performance artist, filmmaker, and video installation artist – a key figure in Polish critical art of the 1990s, has for the first time turned her gaze to the theatre.

“On my path as an artist I have grappled with various forms of expression, and now it’s time for the theatre. It has turned out to be an interesting field for all my activities so far. Gathered together, they generate something new,” says this artist, whose work has appeared at the leading exhibitions, in galleries and museums all around the world.

A point of departure for Katarzyna Kozyra’s play will be the reference to her famous project called Looking for Jesus, which examined “Jerusalem Syndrome.” This time, the artist has decided to investigate the legal and cultural aspects of this most important of trials, which determined the course of history thereafter.

In “Revisions…,” theatre happens in the subtly drawn relationships between the narrators […]. On the one hand, the actors speak in a single voice; on the other, listening to their fellow actors’ words, they discreetly roll their eyes, heaving a sigh. […] As if each of them would wish to tell it all their own way. Outside the confines of the collective narrative. […]

The Kozyra/Bednarek duo turn the camera Kozyra used to film contemporary Jesuses years ago in modern-day Jerusalem in our direction, onto people who have merged with stories from years past. And if this play is driven by an aim, I believe it is for us to take our own look at the Judeo-Christian founding myth, infected by our resentiment for the unjust verdict.
