Jadwiga Staniszkis, a sociologist and professor of humanities at the Warsaw University

Where is Poland?
The conversation following a premiere of Stanisław Wyspiański’s ‘Wesele’ (‘The Wedding’) will be accompanied by a question posed in a book ‘Poruszona mapa’ by Przemysław Czapliński, an author investigating mental geographies in contemporary Polish literature.
Along with our distinguished guests, we will take a closer look at the way Polishness is constructed through theatre, sociology and politics, and at their interstices. We will also discuss Pole’s role in the world and Poland’s positioning with respect to its neighbours, the close ones and the others. How is Poland mapped these days? What do the words of Wyspiański’s Czepiec “Cóż tam, panie, w polityce? Chińcyki trzymają się mocno!?” stand for now?
