Grzegorz Mielczarek is a lecturer and former vice-dean at the Acting Faculty of the Stanisław Wyspiański National Academy of Theatre Arts (formerly the L. Solski PWST) in Krakow. He made his debut in 2001 as the monk in “Abelard and Heloise,” directed by Agata Duda-Gracz at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Krakow, with which he was affiliated for fourteen years. He has worked with Barbara Sass, Magdalena Łazarkiewicz, Iwona Kempa, Agnieszka Olsten, Anna Smolar, Jerzy Stuhr, Krzysztof Jasiński, Krzysztof Globisz, Józef Opalski, Andrzej Domalik, Rudolf Zioło, Tadeusz Bradecki, Artur “Baron” Więcek, Wojciech Kościelniak, and Janusz Opryński.
He has received many awards, for the role of Duhring in “Maestro” directed by Krzysztof Globisz, of Vaclav Nijinsky in “Nijinsky: Notes from the Abyss” directed by Józef Opalski, and of Terry in “The Dark Dark House” directed by Marcin Hycnar. He has been selected as the Best Actor of the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre five times in Audience Polls.
He also worked with Theatre STU in Krakow, where he performed in “Demons,” “Liberation,” “The Witches,” “Maiden Weddings,” and “Balladyna.” In 2018 he joined the Polski Theatre group of actors in Warsaw, and performed in plays including “Under Western Eyes,” “The Doll’s House,” and “Boris Godunov.”
He is also known for his many roles in Television Theatre, including “The Polish Lesson” directed by Mariusz Malec, “The Marshal” directed by Krzysztof Lang, and “The Birth of Fryderyk Demuth” directed by Maciej Wojtyszko.
His first role on the big screen that caught the attention of critics and won him prizes in Poland and abroad was the lead in “Brzydkie słowa” [Nasty Words] directed by Marcin Maziarzewski. He has also worked with Maciej Pieprzyca, whom he met on the set of “Chce się żyć” [I Want to Live], “Jestem Mordercą” [I’m a Murderer], and “Ikar. Legenda Mietka Kosza” [Icarus: The Legend of Mietek Kosz], and with Adam Sikora on “Autsajder” [The Outsider] and Jerzy Stuhr in “Obywatel” [Citizen].
